Getting to know the interface – Dashboard

You might feel a little confused when you login to wordpress dashboard for the first time. WordPress, in my point of view, has the best well-designed user-interface compare with most of the platforms, it is really easy to use once you familiar with it’s interface.



Introduction to the Menu bar at your left :

Dashboard -

This is where you can have a glance at the summary of your website.

Posts -

To add/edit posts, manage categories and post tags.

Media -

Access to media library where you can manage the media file that you have uploaded to your website via wordpress. ( videos, images etc. )

Links -

Manage your links categories, add new/edit links for the links widget.

Pages -

Create or edit static pages.

Comments -

Manage the comments from your website visitors.  Approve/ edit / trash/spam the comments.

Appearance –

Themes – select the theme for your website.

Widgets – add or remove widget from a widget area.

Menus – manage your navigation menu bar, some themes may not support this function.

Custom header – edit your header, some themes may not support this function.

Editor – Quick access to server files, to edit the codes.

Plugins -

Add or remove a plugins, or edit the plugin’s code with the editor.

Users –

Manage users for your website. Edit your profile.

Tools -

Extend the usability of wordpress, import or export database files.

Settings -

General – general settings for the website, URL of website, add tag-line, admin email, date and time format.

Writing – writing settings for the website,

Reading – settings to set your front page display, how many blog post to show in a page.

Discussion – settings for articles,  comments, and set gravatar option.

Media – settings for images size, embed object size and file upload location.

Privacy – settings for site visibility.

Permalinks – settings for the website URL. You can use a custom structure for your website.
